Rock, Hardwood and Boulders
To control weeds and provide a finished appearance to your planting beds, mulch is used to fill in around the plants. Many different organic and inorganic materials can be used to mulch around plants. We stock a variety of landscaping rock and also shredded hardwood for use in our installations and for retail sale to the public.
Rock is long lasting, comes in a variety of textures and colors, and is low maintenance. For our installations, we begin by laying a 6mil contractor grade plastic weed barrier. Then we install 2-3” of rock to provide excellent coverage and a beautiful finish to your planting beds.
Shredded hardwood is an economical and natural choice for your planting beds. Since hardwood mulch is a plant product, it will break down over time. This amends the planting bed soil and keeps your landscaping looking fresh with new hardwood top dressed every other year or so. For our installations, we begin either by laying a contractor grade fabric weed barrier or by putting down a pre-emergent herbicide. Then we install 3-4” of mulch for excellent coverage.
Boulders add dramatic interest to your landscape. With a variety of sizes, shapes and colors, each is unique. They make an interesting focal point in your planting beds or can be used to add function to your landscape as seating or accent walls. We work hard to stock our inventory with interesting and beautiful boulders from around the Midwest.
